Alberta Regulations for Private Care

6 Children

Alberta law states that private providers must not care for more than 6 non-biological children at one time. This means the provider can care for 6 children PLUS their own.

One Provider

Providers are permitted to care for 6 children PER RESIDENCE. Although partnering with another provider is permitted, it does not increase your allowable number of children.

Primary Residence

Private providers are required to operate their dayhome from their primary residence. They are not permitted to operate a dayhome from a secondary location.

Our Minimum Requirements

Insurance

Valid insurance policy that covers all children in care and has a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage. 

Business License

Valid Business License if required by the providers individual municipality.

First Aid

Current first aid certification that is valid for the entire duration of advertisement.

Documentation & Safety

Proof of appropriate business documentation and safety considerations on file. 

Record Checks

Valid Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and Intervention Record Check. 

References

Minimum of 3 verified personal/business references on file.
